Podcast #11 - Feelings

26/10/2017

How important are feelings?
Do they guide us towards the best path for us?
Feelings come and go, they vary from one extreme to the other - so how can we rely on them?
Fear and nerves are also feelings but is there more involved in that? Is it normal or ok to feel scared and nervous?

Bianca discusses her own relationship with feelings and how she has learnt they really don't matter much! They don't define who we are or what we can do.
Tune in to hear how Bianca worked through her feelings to find the truth.

Podcast #10 - Interview with Bradley J Green - PART 2

12/10/2017

In this interview, Brad openly discusses some of the ways he's changed over the years. Starting out as someone who felt the need to prove himself to his peers in the industry, to figuring out who he is as a musician and being comfortable in what he can offer.

He's worked with plenty of known singers who got their start in reality TV and so has a really interesting view of the TV world.

He discusses how sometimes people can make judgements of you that you need to hear to help you improve. He surrounds himself with those he trusts to help him sort out the truth from the rubbish.

Brad has played in cafes and stadiums and everything  in between and has felt the positives and negatives of it all.

With so much to share, this interview has been divided in two. Be sure to listen to both part 1 and part 2.

Podcast #8 - Judgement

28/9/2017

In this podcast, Bianca discusses the issue of 'competition' in an industry that is primarily opinion based.

"We live in a very critical world made up of people just like us, who pass judgement and compare themselves with others.

Perhaps the fear we carry of negative judgements, stem from our own criticism of others?
We are the ones who create this culture."

"Simone is a great mix of natural talent and hard work in a positive, warm and relaxed personality."
- Nick Brown

Simone is a perfect example of humility AND confidence.
She has a reputation for being extremely capable and someone who is very easy to work with.  She prioritizes helping others and trusting those she works with.

Simone does have the same initial, emotional response to many people but she works through her thoughts keeping her motivation and 'the big picture' in mind.

Simone's focus is so refreshing in a world full of ego.

Podcast #6 - Perspective

In this podcast, Bianca reminds us of the big picture.

So often we get caught up in things that ultimately don't matter. We waste our precious energy on worry and 'what ifs'.

Performers can also carry too much responsibility. Bianca shares her own battles of self-importance and how she has learnt she is not responsible for others.

Take the pressure off yourself and do what you do because it matters to you.

Podcast #5 - Interview with Dr. Lisa Young

7/9/2017

Lisa is known for her improvisation which is driven by rhythm, expression and harmony, inspired by a range of nations. She is a founding member of the all female vocal group, Coco's Lunch and she is a passionate and engaging workshop leader and lecturer at Box Hill Institute.

This conversation centres around her view of improvisation and her performance motto, "listen and respond." This formula gives Lisa the freedom to create in the moment, to work with and around any mistakes as they happen.

Lisa says, "great ideas often come in unexpected moments." So perhaps we should allow more room for these great ideas by expecting less perfection and allowing ourselves to be open to whatever happens to our plans. Lisa reminds us to stay grateful for the opportunity.

Lisa suggests https://www.tarabrach.com/ is a great place to find support if you suffer from anxiety. Barbara Hannigan Interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0lFs1C_ewiE

Podcast #4 - Preparation, Practice & Mistakes

31/8/2017

I love the feeling of being prepared.

However, I have had to learn that preparation isn't everything. In life and on stage, mistakes happen and things go "wrong" (not as planned).

Are mistakes a bad thing? Can they be a positive experience for the performer and the audience? Could "mistakes" actually be perceived as performance highlights?

Tune in to Podcast #4 to hear some examples of when things have gone wrong. Learn how to view mistakes in a different way! Eliminate the fear of making them and enjoy the freedom of going with the flow.
