The Routine
News of the Week
An introduction to public speaking; students speak in front of the group where they share something that has happened to them during the week. Students who are unsure what to share are prompted to speak through questions from the group.
Game
A bit of an ice breaker; a game like "Freeze" or "Bob, Star, Freeze, Moose" helps the students to use up some energy, socialise and listen to music.
Warm Ups
Vocal warm ups are an important part of the routine where students learn about how to look after their voice, where they explore their instrument and develop together.
Song
A song is decided upon and this is when students are taught how to sing the song. Each term, the students are given the opportunity to perform this song at the end of term concert held onsite at BFSM.
Solo
Each student is assigned a week (or more) in the term where they are given the opportunity to perform a solo to the rest of the class (& parents). They are taught about microphone technique and given the opportunity to use a microphone helping them to get used to the sound of their own voice. If students are not interested in singing a solo, they can dance, drum, perform magic, play another instrument, crack a joke - whatever they want to use their solo time for.
We ask parents to help their children prepare for their solo, choosing something age appropriate.
